For most shipments, we use United States Postal Service.
Do you combine shipping when multiple items are ordered?
Shipping costs for items without free shipping are calculated based on weight plus a per order flat fee. The equation is Shipping = Flat Fee + (Real Weight * Weight Charge). Flat fees are never charged more than once per order.
Do you allow local pick up?
We do not allow local pick up for any orders.
Do you ship outside the US?
Unfortunately, we do not ship outside of the US.
Where is my package? It has not arrived in the specified date range.
The shipping carrier may have lost your package. Please contact us and we will remedy the situation.
I only received part of my order. Where is the rest?
We sometimes ship orders in multiple packages to ensure all items arrive in top condition. Tracking information is sent to you via email once orders ship. We recommend checking the tracking information to see if you should expect multiple packages.
Even if you provide the volume of your tank, it's hard for us to make this decision for you. Mainly, we don't know your personal design aesthetic, your aquarium conditions and your plant growth timeline. Our suggestion is that you order the smallest plant portion available, test how it does in your system and get a feel for the look. If you like it, order more.
Are your plants pest free?
We do our best to provide pest-free products. However, only tissue culture plants are guaranteed to be free of snails and other pests.
Is supplemental CO₂ required for plants?
Our plants are grown without supplemental CO₂. In many aquarium setups CO₂ however, will help plants grow faster and healthier.
My tank is not ready for plants yet, but I have already received them. How can I keep them alive?
While we recommend planting the plants as soon as possible, most plants can be stored for up to a week before use. Store the unopened plants at room temperature using ambient room lighting or a nearby desk lamp. Keep the unopened plants away from direct sunlight as this may cause them to overheat.
Do you recommend quarantining plants before introducing them to my tank?
There are solutions that you can dip the plants in to help further "sterilize" them, including dilute bleach or potassium permanganate. These treatments can sometimes damage the plants. It is for this reason we recommend inspecting and/or quarantining the plants before introducing them to your aquarium. An alternative would be to purchase tissue culture plants--the process in which they are grown guarantees they will be pest free.
Are your plants shipped in pots?
Unless stated on our website, our plants are not shipped in pots.
How do you recommend splitting the plants sold in mats?
For plants not grown on coco fiber, the best way to portion out the mats is to flip it upside down, roots up, and cut the runners (white connecting "stem") to create smaller portions. Try not to damage the leaf portion when cutting or planting. Then plant in small clumps. Bury each portion at least half an inch down to keep it from uprooting.
Try not to disturb the portions once you've planted them. The older leaves may yellow or die out as the plant adjusts, but have patience. Before it runs, the plant will focus on dropping new roots below the substrate line.
Why do my newly arrived plants have discoloration/black spots on them?
There may be some discoloration including black spots and yellowing of the leaves due to the absence of light and air during transit. You can give your plants a few days to rebound. If you'd like to make a warranty claim, you must contact us within 24 hours of initial delivery and provide photos of the product. (See our Warranty Policy)
Are your plants housed with fish?
Our plant systems do not house fish to minimize any risk of transmitting fish parasites.
We are definitely open to custom orders, but it depends. Please contact us and we'll help you figure out your best option.
What substrate do you recommend for planted tanks?
The lava gravel substrates, in particular, are popular because they are porous, which translates to promoting bacteria growth on its textured surface. The colored sands are ceramic coated sands that will not alter water chemistry and have a nice, uniform color. If you have trouble picking any one substrate, you might consider mixing substrates together. For ideas, visit our Creatives page.
Why do you mention "no water weight" as a feature of your substrates?
Many substrate brands sell their products with water weight included in the weight of their products. We choose to sell substrate completely dry and have found that our customers appreciate this.
Tantora does not use pesticides in the production of the leaves so some may appear imperfect in shape or with discoloration or spotting. This is normal and part of the natural growing and drying process.
Are the items in photos the actual ones I will receive?
Unless otherwise stated, the photos are visual samples of what you will receive. It's not realistic for us to retake photos for every individual item we list and sell.
Should I contact you if your site does not list an item I am looking for?
Please let us know what items you're looking for and our product managers will look into making them available for you. We are always looking for new products that add to our product mix and appreciate customer recommendations.
When will out of stock items be available again?
We try to make items available again within 1 week. If you'd like to place an order for out of stock items, please contact us and we will hold any new inventory for you.
Do I need to wash the substrate before using it?
Althugh SubstrateSource substrates are pre-screened and rinsed, dust and other particles may have accumulated during storage. We recommend rinsing prior to use.
