SubstrateSource Bolbitis heudelotii African Fern Pot  Endemic to West Africa, Bolbitis heudelotii naturally grows attached to rocks or wood in rivers and streams. In the wild, detritus would regularly be taken away with the fast-flowing water in freshwater streams. As such, in an aquarium, care should be taken to keep the water clean and the plant's rhizome/leaves free from debris.

The fan-shaped (pinnate) leaves are slightly translucent, making African Water Fern very desirable to freshwater aquarium hobbyists. Place the plant near your water outflow to simulate natural conditions and to enjoy seeing the leaves flow with the current.

Propagate B. heudelotti by cutting the rhizome, making sure each rhizome portion has at least three leaves growing from it. If growth speed is important to you, we have noticed that this plant benefits greatly from CO2 injection.
