- Requires minimal light and is ideal for small aquariums due to its compact size
- Smallest of the Anubias barteri varieties, and like its cousins, can thrive emersed and submersed
- Live freshwater aquarium plant with SubstrateSource Anubias barteri Care Guide included
Our favorite of the Anubias barteri varieties, 'Petite' is not only small, it also retains the highly desirable characteristics known to the species. Anubias barteri var. petite has robust leaves, displays rich green colors, and has the ability to thrive in a broad range of water and lighting conditions.
The freshwater aquatic plant grows compactly and slowly, making it a great addition to low-maintenance nano tanks and Betta bowls. We like the rigidity of the leaves and small size, finding 'Petite' goes well with freshwater dwarf shrimp, which appreciate the natural shelter provided by the leaves.
Though some do plant Anubias barteri var. petite in their substrate, we recommend against it. The plant's rhizome should be left exposed and does best when attached to hardscape such as driftwood. Keep your water clean and avoid letting debris settle on Anubias and the species may even flower in your freshwater tank.
